spec:

A six month old XJR was purchased and totally stripped of all its unwanted parts, these were sold leaving us just an engine sitting inside the frame loop, we knew we wanted a mono shock single sided rear end so out came the engine and the frame was jigged up ready for the removal of the sub frame and swing arm pivot section.

A triumph arm was chosen because the swing arm pivot to wheel spindle centres are marginally shorter than the XJR were as the Ducati equivalent was about 60MM “ok for three points turns but that’s about it”. The main problem was the width of the pivot section of the arm, this was 40mm wider than the frame so with all aspects of the frame held in position and jigged the swing arm pivot section of the frame was removed and replaced with new sections making the frame wide enough to accept the triumph arm.

Next job was to remove the cylinder head and cams and send them to Holes hot for re-working, remove various engine casings such as clutch, timing cover and oil filter housing and manufacture new ones from billet aluminium this way all the parts would come together for assembly at the same time. Back to the frame and the next job was to fabricate the mono shock mounting points, sub frame mounts and re-site the rear engine mounts, with this complete, a brand new R1 sub frame was purchased, modified and fitted .

With the back end sorted the swing arm, shocker and various linkages were removed and completely re-finished. Time now for the front end, again the Yamaha parts bin was raided throwing up a new set of R1 forks, while these were anodised black fitted with up rated springs and oil a custom made set of yokes were produced, quadruple clamp bottom and triple clamp top fitted with a custom made EN24T stem.

To hold the flat bars in place a one off set of billet risers were manufactured, now the front end was complete the frame could be painted ready to be assembled as a rolling chassis.
